Trigger's Salvation: Hellfire Dogs MC #1 (Hellfire Dogs MC Series) Page 12
I take the sword from the torturer’s hands and I step in front of Max.
“Evie, please don’t do this. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I just wanted my son back.” He begs again. I kneel so that we are eye to eye.
“You’re pathetic. A true father would have never done that. And no matter what, we are his family.” I point toward Tony, so Max can see what a true man looks like. “And I’ll be damned if anyone tries to take that away from him. Ya feel me? No Max, tonight it ends. Tonight, I’m done.”
Max continues to beg as I take the sword and swing it right at his head. It rolls down the hill and his body slumps forward. Tony and Malik come to my side. Malik takes the sword out of my hand and walks over to Sierra. Tony takes me into his arms and plants a passionate kiss on my lips. My world starts spinning as I feel the weight of the pull floating away from me.
Sierra’s men get busy on getting rid of the body before we leave. The body will be fed to the gators in the bayou, no body no evidence. It takes about an hour to do all of that before we can finally make our way back to the vehicles. I see Tony’s bike. He has no idea how bad I want to ride on the back of it and just let all my worries fly with the wind.
I see Rush waiting for me to get into the van. I figure now would be a good time to let him know that I want to ride with Tony than in the backseat of the van.
“Rush,” I run up to him, “Would you mind if I rode with Tony?”
“Nah, girl. Go,” he smiles and gives me a wink. Then I see Sierra walking up to me.
“Evelyn, if you must know, the other wolves who attacked tonight will be given amnesty.” She says with a smile, but there is more she wants to say. It doesn’t take a wolf to figure that out.
“Good. I’m glad.” I answer.
“Also, Evelyn, you need to learn to trust yourself completely. You are strong and coming into your transformation rather quickly. You are now a walking lethal weapon. If you can’t control yourself or trust your instincts, the roles might be reversed next time.” Sierra says.
“Yes, ma’am.” I say as I bow my head.
“Now, home with you,” She starts to turn to walk away, “You have a son waiting for you don’t you?” Sierra gives me a wink and walks toward her convoy.
Yes, I do.
Epilogue
Eve
It’s been six months since my transformation. And I can say that I have never felt freer. Everything seems to be going right at this point. Tony and I finally got our own place. Alec finally has his own room. He was so excited when he came in and saw Beast Boy on his wall and Teen Titans everything. Well, I guess it’s better than Barney or Blue’s Clues, right? Tony has finally let down more walls and has been in talks with a lawyer to adopt Alec as his own since his father is now considered ‘missing’. I’m not sure if they will ever find someone who can’t be found.
Everyone from the MC has continued to show me what family really means. We laugh, cry, and even fight together but at the end of the day the love we have for each other is stronger than I have ever known.
I’m at the grocery store with a prospect on my tail, that is something I will never get used to, when I get a phone call. I have been having some issues holding food down and it’s getting bad. I’ve dropped quite a bit of weight in the last few months. So, I am hoping this is the doctor with the results to the tests her conducted.
I swipe my screen so that it answers the call, “Hello?”
“Miss Bordeaux, please.” A female voice on the other end says.
“This is her.” I answer as I pick up a cantaloupe and smell it.
“How are you today, Miss Evelyn?” the woman asks.
“I’m well. Thank you.”
“That’s good. The reason for my call, Miss Evelyn, I’m afraid I have some news.”
I don’t hear the rest of the conversation. Everything is closing in around me. I drop my phone and the last thing I remember is my prospect tail running to catch me.
Trigger
“What do you mean she fainted?” I shout into the phone. This prospect is about as useless as a can of worms.
“I don’t know, man, she was on the phone and the next thing I know she is falling. The manager called the paramedics.” Jake says, he sounds concerned but still, how could he not be at my girl’s side to make sure this didn’t happen. I’m on my bike and down the street before he can tell me exactly where they are. I know where they are. She shops at the same grocery store every week so don’t tell me I don’t know my girl.
When I get there, they are loading Eve up on the ambulence. She has tubes in her arms and an oxygen mask on her face. The female paramedic tries to stop me from seeing her.
“Sir, you can’t ride unless you are family. Do you know her?” She looks at me with concern in her eyes but she won’t let my arms go.
“She’s my Ol’ lady,” I say as I bring my hands behind my head. “What happened?”
“We aren’t sure. Right now, she is just on fluids for dehydration and oxygen since she fainted. It’s standard protocol.”
“Where are you taking her?” I ask.
“University Medical.” I don’t even wait for her to finish before I am on my bike and on my way to the hospital. I don’t even care how fast I am going as long as I am by her bedside when she wakes up.
About ten minutes later, the paramedics are driving in and are pulling her out of the back of their van. I meet them in the emergency department. The female paramedic is giving them the rundown of her stats and all of her personal information. Nurses are in and out hooking her up to machines, drawing blood, and all sorts of shit. After what seems like days, her doctor finally comes into the room.
“Doc, what’s wrong with her?”
“Well, son. She’s pregnant. And she’s losing the baby.” I’m in a state of shock.
“Wait, pregnant?”
“She’s about nine weeks along, son. I’m sorry, but there is nothing I can do but to let the baby go. I do have something for you.” The doctor reaches in his pocket and pulls out a black and white picture of a hot mess and hands it to me and points to the middle of it. “That’s your baby. She’s going to need you, son. But for right now she’s sleeping and you lost a child, so I’m hear if you need to talk.”
I look at the picture and look at the woman I love sleeping in the bed. We didn’t even know that we were pregnant. “Will we be able to get pregnant again.” I ask, still look at the fuzzy black and white picture.
“In time, you’ll need to let her heal from this loss. We will continue to monitor her to make sure we don’t need to do a D & C but she won’t have to stay for extended period of time. I only advise that there is no sex for at least six weeks and she rests as much as possible.” The doc explains. I look up as the doctor leaves. I see Eve in the bed looking so peaceful. How am I supposed to tell her this kind of news? It doesn’t seem fair.
She showed me what it means to love someone more than myself; what it means to fight for someone I’m afraid to lose. She saved me; became my salvation. Now it’s my turn to be her savior, her rock, and more importantly, the one person she can always count on.
